Notes on English Grammar

The editors at AR/Architecture Research do not edit or proofread abstracts and papers for English grammar. It is imperative that all submissions are presented using proper English. Translations into English should be made by a professional translator and thoroughly proofread and edited by a professional proofreader to assure excellent English usage. AR’s editors cursorily review papers before peer review; if a paper does not meet AR’s standards regarding content lucidity and grammatical precision, it will be returned to the author for editing.

Abstract

Each Abstract Submission should include:

  1. Title, Author’s name and surname, e-mail address & physical address
  2. CV brief (as a separate document)
  3. 800 word maximum abstract of paper to be submitted.
  4. Key Words: 5-word/50 character with spaces maximum

Paper

By submitting an article, the author or group of authors guarantees its originality and authorship. The submission confirms neither the text nor graphics have been published or submitted to another publication. All authors are accountable for their contribution. Authors shall take into account the Authors’ Rights Act (Uradni list RS, No 21/95, 9/01). In principle the ARA allows for the publication of already published graphic material for illustrative purposes, however, the source must be fully quoted. For graphical elements authors should obtain written approval from the source.

Each Submission should include the following:

  1. General information
    • Paper title
    • Author’s name and surname
    • e-mail address & physical address
    • The document’s filename should be AR-YYYY-name_surname-INFO-v00.docx
  2. Biography
    • Short biography, 150 word maximum
    • Your biography’s filename should be AR-YYYY -name_surname-BIO-v00.docx
  3. Abstract
    • 800 word maximum abstract of paper.
    • Key Words: 5-word/50 character with spaces maximum
    • The abstract’s filename should be AR-YYYY-name_surname-ABSTRACT-v00.docx
  4. Paper
    • 6000 word maximum text body
    • Bibliographic references
    • The paper’s filename should be AR-YYYY-name_surname-PAPER-v00.docx
  5. Digital signature confirming the writing’s originality
    • please download the copyright agreement bellow and fill in the data
    • change the document’s filename to AR-YYYY-name_surname-CA.pdf

YYYY represents the edition’s/call's date in year format (e.g. 2022). The filename’s appendix “v00” indicates the document's version. Please increase the number each time you send the document to us (when working on corrections, implementation of editor’s guidelines etc.).

Formatting

  1. Text should be prepared and submitted as an MS Word file.
  2. Use the template file we have provided.
Use it for all the documents (abstract, paper, CV brief, short biography).
  3. Use as little design as possible.
  4. Do not use underlining; italic and bold can be used if needed (e.g. in references).
  5. Do not use direct formatting (eg. do not change font size, do not use colors, …).
  6. For formatting use only Word Character and Paragraph styles.
Find them in the “Styles Pane” or in "Quick styles list" (eg. Normal, Emphasis, Strong, Heading 1–6 ... ).
  7. Titles should follow english capitalization, do not use only capital letters.
  8. Use only automatic footnotes. The footnote number in the text should always be inserted after the punctuation.
  9. Use double quotation marks for quotations (“Like this.”) and single quotation marks only for emphasis (‘like this’).
  10. Punctuation marks eg. comma must always be inserted before the closing quotation mark (“Like this.”)
  11. Footnote reference numbers must always be inserted after the punctuation marks (Like this.4).
  12. Delete all the empty lines (empty line after a paragraph is automatically added).

Graphic Content

All image-based material must be approved for publication by the owner or organization legally entrusted with the content by providing proof of copyright and trademark clearances. Graphic material should be sent separately as a single file containing all images etc. Images should be 300 dpi and minimum 10 cm length (1200 px) on the shorter edge, JPG of TIFF files. Placement of images should be noted within the text body; however, AR may take the initiative to “design” each essay with respect to the edition’s overall graphic design.

Citation and Referencing

AR follows The Chicago Manual of Style method for document formatting and citation. Referencing should be rendered using the Chicago style based on “Notes and Bibliographies” system. It consists of in-text referencing by numbered footnotes (full notes and short notes) together with corresponding entries in the bibliography listing all sources in full at the end of the essay/paper.

The extent of sources should reflect a realistic necessity of the presented paper. Please avoid including sources that are not relevant for the work

Please, follow and use consistently the detailed guidelines for citation and referencing available on the link.

Ethics

The integrity of the content published in AR is an essential objective and should be ensured during the review, editing and publishing process. To that purpose, all the parties involved, authors, reviewers, members of the editorial team, are expected to fully adhere to the AR journal policy regarding publication ethics and respect the statements. The AR ethic statements are based on the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Best Practice Guide (https://publicationethics.org/guidance/Guidelines)

Open Access

The journal provides immediate open access (gold open access) to the scientific content under the license Creative Commons Attribution – Non-Commercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0). Users [VŠ6] may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to articles published on the Website and use them for any lawful (non-commercial) purpose without prior permission of the publisher or author.

AR Copyright Agreement

Along with submitting the final version of the article, the author must also submit the completed and signed AR Copyright Agreement. The agreement arranges the transfer of copyrights; authors undertake that the article is their copyrighted work, that they have all rights related to the content of the article, as well as for publishing any graphic or other material, that the article is not subject of a peer review process in another journal and that the article has not yet been published and will not be published elsewhere. The Editorial Board reviews articles against plagiarism.

Fees

Publication in AR is free of article processing charge (APC) or other fees.
